We’re back in Khartoum—feels like homecoming, almost

I haven’t been posting these past days. To start with, I could blame it on poor Internet connection. To end with, it was more due to fully depleted energy levels, both of yours truly and every single one of my devices.

When I posted this update on Facebook, I had reached my limits and was resting under a tree in the middle of an unrelentingly hot and seemingly never-ending sorghum field. Seeing your instant reactions gave me energy to keep going. Thanks everyone!

We’ve come back today by bus from the Ethiopian border to Khartoum. How innocent and ignorant we were just a week ago! Coming back to Khartoum now feels like homecoming, almost.

Energy is being recharged, so I will be catching up with the posts for the past days from tomorrow onwards. Rest assured, everything you’ll read in those posts lies behind us. We’re all well and in a good mood, looking forward to a full week of recovery time off our bikes.

    Masaa al-khair, Madaam.
    Kayfa halik?

Have enjoyed the past, nearly 2 weeks’, blogging – never boring, always funny!
Special mention – Day 21 – great lesson learned – good for you. “Slow down, little Jaguar
    Keep cool, little Thunderbird Ford.”

Was thinking, when you’d been cycling for just over two weeks, that before you know it two months would have gone by – and then the next two will go by! All those precious moments! I’m enjoying them this end!

Glad Bernd is back and that you all are well and safe!
Love all the photos and videos with sounds and la musica! Picture of you and the little kids is cute – sweet, little brats!

Here, we have snow – not too much but enough to make it pretty and lighter and brighter. Cold, minus temps – with wind which cuts like a knife! Beautiful at night with a full moon.

Staying tuned for Nairobi and looking forward to it.
    Ma’a as-salamah!
    xxx

LET ME HELP YOU EXPLORE AFRICA

I found my purpose while cycling through Africa: To help you too experience the beauty of this continent and the warmth of its people – safely and responsibly.

At Fair Voyage, we partner with local sustainability leaders to curate socially and environmentally responsible travel experiences. You get personal travel advice directly from local experts and tailor-made trips crafted just for you. Tell us your trip ideas to speak to your advisor today.

Before cycling through Africa, I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, became aware of the exploitation of porters working on the mountain, and wrote the book Kilimanjaro Uncovered.

Appalled by the continuing exploitation of human life in travel, I partnered with the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) and volunteered with them as advisor and board member to help make a difference.

At Fair Voyage, we treat our porters fairly, which also leads to a safer and more enjoyable experience for our travelers. See what our travelers say.
